San Marco, Piazza di (Real),Square in Florence before the Church of San Marco; the scene of Savonarola's open-air sermon to the crowd, 27th February, 1498. The Piazza di San Marco takes its name from the adjoining church and convent of San Marco. Its principal associations are with Savonarola and the Dominicans, but it was also a favourite playground for the popular game of Palla e Maglio.
