Stonyshire

Stonyshire,One of the two counties in which the story of Adam Bede takes place; Snowfield, where Dinah Morris lives and Stoniton where Hetty Sorrel is tried for child-murder, are both in Stonyshire. "That rich undulating district of Loamshire, to which Hayslope belonged, lies close to a grim outskirt of Stonyshire, overlooked by its barren hills ... a bleak treeless region, intersected by lines of cold grey stone." The original of Stonyshire is Derbyshire.
