Mediterranean (Real)

Mediterranean (Real),The Mediterranean is a definite part of the scene in two of the novels. In Daniel Deronda Gwendolen Harleth and her husband, Grandcourt, go yachting on the Mediteranean, and Grandcourt is drowned in it while sailing a small boat near Genoa, and Gwendolen is rescued from drowning when she leaps over board after him. In Romola, Romola de' Bardi, sick at heart after her god-father's execution, sets herself adrift in a small fishing boat, hoping that she may never return ; instead she is carried to the plague-stricken village, where, in helping the sufferers, she wins back some peace and strength for herself.
