Tofton

Tofton,A village on the Floss, very near St. Ogg's, close to which Tom and Maggie Tulliver are drowned. The original of Tofton may have been Morton, a village on the Trent ("Floss") about one mile north of Gainsborough (" St. Ogg's "). (See article by John W. Fraser in Bookman (Lond.), voL 9, p. 55.)
