Farren, Molly

Eppie's mother, a barmaid, addicted to drink and opium, whom Godfrey Cass married secretly. On New Year's Eve, enraged at her husband's refusal to acknowledge her, she starts to walk to Ravelow with their child in her arms to disclsoe herself to Godfrey's father. On the way she yields to her slavery to opium, and as a result dies in the snow near Silas Marner's cottage, and is buried in a pauper's grave, unacknowledged by her husband.
