Hospital for Poor Travellers (Real)

Hospital for Poor Travellers (Real),A convent hospital outside the Porta Santa Croce, Florence, to which Piero di Cosimo directs Baldassarre Calvo after the latter escapes from the French soldiers. In the fifteenth century Florence had many hospitals of both types, those for the care of the sick and those for the entertainment of poor travellers. At least one of the second type was to be foun dnear each gate of the city.
