Capponi, Piero (Hist.)

One of the four syndics charged with effecting the treaty between Charles VIII and the people of Florence, who at the critical moment spoke out and opposed the king. Piero di Gino di Neri Capponi (1446-1496), a member of an illustrious family and gonfaloniere of Florence, who was especially celebrated for the courageous stand he took in the negotiations with Charles VIII.
