Filelfo, Franceso (Hist.)

A scholar under whom Bardo de' Bardi once studied Greek. Francesco Filelfo (1398-1481), an Italian humanist, and expositor of Virgil and Cicero. He taught Greek in various Italian cities--Bologna, Florence, and Siena, 1427-40; in 1481 he was called to the chair of Greek at Florence.
