Description

A Florentine scholar, the rejected suitor of Alessandra Scala, who indulges in a literary quarrel with Bartolommeo Scala. "Angelo Poliziano, chief literary genius of that age, a born poet, and a scholar without dullness, whose phrases had blood in them and are alive still." Angelo Ambrosini, called Poliziano, or Politian (1454-94), Italian scholar and poet, professor of Greek and Latin at Florence. His Miscellanea, a collection of critical observations on the ancient authors, was published 1489.
