Description

Prophetess "chief among the feminine seers of Florence," who announces revelations hostile to Bernardo del Nero, Romola's godfather. Camilla Bartolini Davanzi (1455-1520), who in 1484 married Ridolfo di Filippo Rucellai. She was divorced in 1496, and in 1500 entered the third order of St. Dominic, taking the name of Sister Lucia. In Savonarola's deposition at his trial, mention is made of a plot for the murder of Bernardo del Nero, which seemed to have originated in a revelation which Camilla Rucellai believed that she had received. Sister Lucia died in 1520, and was pronounced beata shortly after her death.
