Description

Secretary of the Florentine Re public and patron of Tito Melema; a self-made man, who carries on a literary quarrel with Angelo Poliziano. Bartolommeo Scala (1430- 95), a miller's son from Colle di Valdelsa, who came to Florence, studied there under the protection of Cosimo de' Medici and rose to wealth and power, becoming Gonfaloniere and Secretary of the Republic.
