Description

A deceased acquaintance of Mr. Brooke's, who, if he were still living, could have helped to save Bruce, the sheep stealer, from hanging. Sir Samuel Romilly (1757-1818), an English jurist and law reformer. He succeeded in having the death penalty abolished for a number of minor offences, including some kinds of stealing.
