Summer 2026: New research on the image creators (designers, painters, etchers engravers, and the printing processes used) has been incorporated into an updated George Eliot Illustrations Gallery. Research assistants in Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 extended the contextual descriptions of each illustration, most of which now include chapter references and quotations from the represented texts.
Spring 2025–Spring 2026: Explore our new Gallery of Illustrated Quotations, where Eliot’s words are paired creatively with images and artwork. Designed by our digital humanities interns and licensed for reuse (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0), these creative designs are made for printing or sharing on social media.
Spring–Fall 2025: Free downloadable Digital Resource Guides are now available for researching and teaching Eliot’s major works, with links and descriptions of materials available across our three sister sites: GeorgeEliotArchive.org, GeorgeEliotReview.org, and GeorgeEliotScholars.org.
Spring-Fall 2025: Two teams of Senior Design students were able to process George Eliot's novels (encoded with TEI in XML by Cui and Rilett, 2023) as interactive text-to-speech Audiobooks. These TTS audiobooks supplement our collection of human-read audiobooks provided by Librivox volunteers.
Completed Fall 2025: Graduate Student Sarah Guyer has finalized George Eliot’s Reading, a groundbreaking digital humanities project underway since 2019. This open-access library features 923 texts that George Eliot is documented to have read, providing readers with a comprehensive resource for exploring the intellectual influences that shaped her work.
