George Eliot and Womens Suffrage

Title

George Eliot and Womens Suffrage

Description

A response to an article authored by Mr. Frederic Harrison in which Mr. Harrison surmises that George Eliot did not find the women's suffrage movement worthy of even her rebuke. The author of the current article disagrees with this assertion, stating that one of George Eliot's good friends was heavily involved in the movement and presenting an extract of a letter George Eliot wrote to show that she sympathized with the women's cause and went on to say that she did not publicly write about the movement because one of George Eliot's core qualities is a tolerance of other opinions and not a forceful expression of her own.
