Description

Octavia Hill was a philanthropist George Eliot supported. Hill was a sister-in-law of Charles Lee Lewes and worked with underprivileged children in London when she met John Ruskin in 1853. Ruskin helped further Hill's philanthropic efforts. Eliot and Hill moved among similar social circles and Eliot gave money to Hill's public housing reform movements.
