Mazzinghi, Domenico (Hist.)

Title

Mazzinghi, Domenico (Hist.)

Description

One of the Ten, an ardent disciple of Savonarola. Savonarola employs Mazzinghi to write a letter to the Florentine ambassador in France to prepare the way for a later letter from Savonarola himself to the French king. By guile Tito Melema secures from Savonarola the letter to the French king which Savonarola had meant to entrust to Mazzinghi and after this letter has been sent by a courier it is captured by agents of the Duke of Milan, through information supplied by Tito. There is some dispute as to the actual historical facts in the matter of the letters. According to Villari, none of Savonarola's own letters to the princes were ever sent, and the letter which fell into the hands of the Duke of Milan was the one which Mazzinghi had written to the Florentine ambassador. Mazzinghi died 1520.
