"Did I ever tell you the story of a coarse but clever fellow whom I knew in Berlin, and who speaking of an acquaintance of mine "qui n'était pas si bien" said: "Lewes, tell that fellow if he wishes to go into society I will lend him my backside -- he can't go with that face!" Well, he would perhaps say the same now, of a certain scabby party, wouldn't he? However, the Genevoises won't fall in love with you -- that's something. "No Name" gets rather dreary.
