Evidence
George Eliot to Mrs. Richard Congreve, 11 May 1865. “The first number of the ‘Review’ was done with last Monday, and will be out on the 15th. You will be glad to hear that Mr Harrison's article is excellent, but the "mull" which George declares to be the fatality with all first numbers is so far incurred with regard to this very article, that from overwhelming alarm at its length George put it (perhaps too hastily) into the smaller type. I hope the importance of the subject and the excellence of the treatment will overcome that disadvantage.” GEL 4: 191-2
