Title

'The father whose return is greeted by young voices'

Alt Text Description

Colored illustration of a man being greeted at a house door by four children and a woman. The man is picking up the youngest child.

Description

Godfrey Cass thinks enviously of “the father whose return is greeted by young voices.” He and his wife have had no children in the many years that they’ve been married. Godfrey wants to adopt a child, specifically Eppie, but Nancy Cass (née Lammeter) believes that it would be wrong. She thinks that if Providence did not give them a child, they were not meant to have children.
