The Blood Transfusion (La Transfusion du Sang)

Mrs. Archer, Bertha’s maid, reveals that Bertha is trying to murder her husband, Latimer, with poison. The maid, who had died, was brought back to life by a blood transfusion performed by Charles Meunier, Latimer’s good friend and a doctor. She had helped Bertha acquire the poison, but after a falling out with her mistress, she became ill. A young and celebrated doctor, friend of M***, attempts a transfusion with his own blood. The operation succeeds and the dead woman is revived. In this brief flash of life, she recognizes Mme *** who has just entered the room, and “unveils” her guilt: “You plan to poison your husband,” she cries.
