During election day, Felix stands on a platform with a policeman's sabre in his hand, overseeing a crowd before him. Spratt, the manager of Sproxton colliery is bound to a poll, which Felix does to save him from any violence. This illustration captures Felix Holt's decisive intervention during the riot, as he asserts control over the unruly mob with a sabre, a courageous attempt to restore order and prevent further violence (Chapter 33).
