7 GE to Barbara [Mme Eugene] Bodichon, London, 18 January 1872
MS: Berg Collection, New York Public Library.
The Priory, | 21. North Bank, | Regents Park.
January 18. 72.
Dearest B.
I am ashamed and grieved that I cannot help you with an address which you so kindly sought in my behalf long ago.
The fact is, we went to the said shop in Oxford Street, and bought some glycerine soap there; but I was disappointed in it, not finding it so nice as that which had won my affections at your Isle of Wight home. So I neglected the preservation of the address. I have since had some of the glycerine soap in prepared squares which comes nearer to my ideal.
Always thine uselessly,
M. E. Lewes.
