Waltham House, | Waltham Cross.
March 21. 1864.
My dear Lewes.
On Sunday I got your Aristotle and went at it at once. It is wonderfully and deliciously lucid. Indeed I know no one so lucid -- and at the same time so graphic -- as you are. Your Goethe was charming to me as combining those two qualifications.
I shall get to you before long. I went to see Carlyle last week. Oh, heavens; -- what a mixture of wisdom and folly flows from him!
Yours always,
A. T.
I have told George Smith to send to your wife the Small House at Allington. 613 Ask her to receive it from me with my kindest regards.
