. . . When the last entry was made I had been working over "Natural Law" and was rather disgusted with it -- at least it failed to interest me and I seemed to understand that she could not care for it. On the next Tuesday [19 February] I went to the Priory to take her the cuffs she had ordered at the office and to tell her I didn't want to have a 2nd edition. However he had a headache and she, I thought was tired with her drive, so I said nothing. I forget what we spoke of, besides the Rector of Lincoln and Pierre Leroux -- they were gratified at my remembering his "Il ne s'agit que d'y arriver" (quoted by Lewes who forgot having done so). Stayed only a short time -- returned to the shop and tailoresses. Two days after saw Tr'fcbner, and felt it would not be possible to withdraw the book as it was in his series.
