Drove to Sizer's about binding books. Edith. C. dined with me. Gave him Ripley's article and letter.
Wednesday 7 January 1880
Thick fog. Piano tuned. Mr. Langford called and told me that there had been 1000 vols. of my cheap editions sold since the 1st. Magnificat anima mea! Invitation to become a Vice President of the Spelling Reform Association. Declined.
Thursday 8 January 1880
Thick fog again. Drove to Sizer's. Wrote to Mr. Cyples, thanking him for his letter and volume. Romanes, [Theism.] Tiele, History of Religions. 360 Odyssey.
Friday 9 January 1880
Dark morning again. Mrs. Blackwood wrote -- answered her. Mr. Myers wrote to tell me of his engagement. 361 Answered him. Horrible darkness. Indoors all day. Bret Harte.
