GE Journal, London, 27 March-16 April 1862
MS: Yale. Extracts published: Cross, II, 338-339.
* 27.
I have been lately reading some books on the mediaeval condition of Greece, sent by Mr. Clark from Cambridge, and this morning not being well enough to write I have been running through Wordsworth's Greece 46 and stud[y]ing the geography.
Finished Wordsworth's Greece.
Saturday.
In the evening we had only Mr. Scharf and Mr. Redford.
Wrote very little, having a head-ache threatening me.
Again wrote little. In the evening went to a concert at St. James's Hall and heard Joachim.
April 1.
Rainy weather. My head very infirm, so that I could do nothing in the evening.
Better this morning, writing with enjoyment. At the 77th page. Read Juvenal this morning, and Nisard -- Po'e8tes Latins de la D'e9cadence 47 in the evening.
As I had been very ailing for a fortnight and more, we resolved to go to Dorking and set off today.
