Dear Mr. Main,
Thanks. You are quite right. The reading ought to be -- "any more than vanity makes us witty." 703
But the book is stereotyped, and I fear that I cannot well make corrections for the next edition. I shall note the error which you have kindly pointed out. There are doubtless many others either of pen or type, and I have a great longing to make the text as correct as I can. But I am afraid of looking at it, until I can be free from the sense that every correction demands a new plate.
I was most encouraged by your report of my new readers. 704
