I have prevailed on a friend to try and write a book about animals such as might tend to raise the sympathies of children northern and southern, and I hope that she will succeed in her attempt. She will at least put in no irrelevant doctrine, which is the blemish of most things written for children.
I am very grateful to you for the lovely flowers, which were not [meant for mankind,] as the books were. 762
