Tuesday Evening.
Dear Bessie
My brother-in-law is dead, and I go down to my sister on Thursday. So I cannot be with you in the evening as we proposed.
Thanks for your precious words of cheering and sympathy. I am quite calm today -- queen of myself and of circumstances.
Write to me when I am away -- at Mrs. E. Clarke's, Meriden. But do not come to see me to-morrow -- I must keep myself from the excitement of talking.
Ever your faithful and loving friend
Marian.
