There was nothing much to regret last night. Mr. Huxley 281 and David Masson were the only notables, unless you will allow Mr. Atkinson to be one.
I ask not what hidden law of your being has determined your long absence from me. You will come again some day, like Encke's comet. 282 Till then and always
