Dear Bessie
You will see the letter I enclose to your best beloved, 343 so I need not repeat to you what I have said to her. If the Chapmans join us, they will decide about the time and the train etc. -- if not, I will take care to let you know.
Mr. Chapman is possessed of your messages -- but he begs me to say, that he will be much obliged if you will always write any business commands for him on a separate piece of paper, if you choose to enclose them in a letter to me, as in that case the said piece of paper goes among the other orders of the day into the hands of the assistant, and there is less risk of delay or omission.
I was so sorry to have missed you when you came to say good bye. I sometimes wonder if you expect me to return calls and repay civilities like a Christian or whether it is sufficiently understood between us that I am a heathen and an outlaw. In haste
