Dear Friend
A younger sister of Miss Tilley's -- a poor girl quite dependent on her own labour as a milliner -- is going to Australia, where two of her brothers are already settled. 296 She is recommended to take out a few goods, as of course any form of property is better than money at Sydney, and Mrs. Chapman has suggested that you would perhaps not object to sell her a few half pieces of ribbon. I know you will not mind a little trouble for the sake of accommodating a poor girl, but perhaps there are other reasons, which I do not think of for your disliking to sell a small quantity of goods. Of course the newest fashions are not wanted on the other side of the globe, but a milliner will not like ugly things -- so if you can do these good people the kindness to supply them, perhaps you will send a few patterns for them to choose from. You have not answered my question about the Horace yet.
I have been ready to tear my hair with disappointment about the next number of the W[estminster] R[eview]. We are actually obliged to pay for one paper and put it in the fire. The English Contemporary Literature 297 is worse than ever and the article on Ruth and Villette 298 is unsatisfactory. Then one of the articles is half as long again as it ought to be. 299 In short I am a miserable Editor.
Instead of changing my street, I have changed my room only, and am now installed in Mr. Chapman's. It is very light and pleasant, and I suppose I must be content for a few months longer. Indeed I think I shall never have the energy to move -- it seems to be of so little consequence where I am or what I do. In a hurry
