Dear Mr. Bray
I did not send you [Social Statics] 41 because I thought you would admire the book -- far from it -- but because you expressed a wish to have it, and I have not often the opportunity or the power of gratifying a wish of yours.
Mr. Chapman begs me to apologize that the information you requested has not been sent to you before, but I have forgotten the reason which he stated for the delay. He says that he has not succeeded in tracing the route mentioned by Mr. Noel. 42 All he can tell you is this: "Parcels can be forwarded by Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company to Malta, and from Malta there is a conveyance to Athens. This is the only mode of transit to Greece that I can hear of." I copy from a note which he gave me.
I shall be very glad to see you next week, and still more so to hear that your anxieties about the business of the season are diminishing. Miss Ronalds called on me the other day -- induced, I fancy, by hearing of me from Mrs. Ellis, who is a great intimate of hers. Tell Cara her letter last week was infinitely precious to me. I didn't write to her on Saturday from sheer want of time. Tell Sara, Miss Ronalds spoke of her with great admiration from her impressions when she called at Rosehill last summer. Love to all from
