I dare say you will have heard before you receive this that Edward Clarke is dead. 249 I am to go to the Funeral which will take place on Friday. I am debating with myself as to what I ought to do now for poor Chrissey -- but I must wait until I have been on the spot and seen my brother. 250 Love to Cara and Sara.

I have re-opened my letter to say that if you hear no more from me, I shall trust to your goodness to give me a bed on Thursday night and to hire a horse for me to take me to Meriden on Friday morning. 251 This is a work of charity that I know you will not grudge.
