Dearest Elinor
Your sweet note made me wish to be with you and to be cheered by your affection as I have so often been before. But unhappily, in spite of the outer sunshine, I do not find in myself just now the needful spirit and courage to venture so far out of my shell. 377 I thank you tenderly for your kindness.
The maiden Phoebe (I forgot to ask her surname) pleased me very much, and I think she is the very servant I wanted. You have done me a great service in finding or at least discerning her for me.
I wish you were strong enough to come to your drawing studies again. I should perhaps see you a little oftener if you had that reason for coming into town. But I think that I shall not have patience to stay away from country quietude beyond the end of April. Please give my love to Florence and Willie.
