My dear Miss Davies
About your paper, Mr. Lewes recommends that your Brother 812 should write to the Editor of the Cornhill 813 -- or to Mr. G. Smith, if he knows him -- stating that you have such a paper in readiness, and begging a direct answer as to whether it can be inserted by November.
For personal reasons Mr. Lewes can have no communication with the
Cornhill people, but if you fail with them, he will be happy to send your paper to Mr. Trollope. 814
A young physician, 815 an Oxford man of scientific bent, who came to see us on Sunday spoke of Miss Becker's paper 816 as "brilliant," and thought it likely to do good. This, for your consolation.
I am rather a wretch, just now, or I would have returned your "Student's Mag." 817
We go to Leeds on Monday.
