My dear Miss Davies
My friend Mrs. Nassau Senior, 891 whose name must be well known to you, is anxious to learn all about the College. She expects to be on a visit to her brother Mr. Hughes at or about Christmas and wishes to take that opportunity of calling on Mrs. Manning 892 -- or on you, if you were there.
It has occurred to me that the family at the College may be dispersed by that time, so, before writing to Mrs. Senior, I think it better to trouble you with this note.
Is it of any use for Mrs. Senior to call at the College about Christmas? If you can say "Yes," I am sure you will oblige me by doing all you can to prepare a pleasant reception for her, since you are the only lady connected with the College to whom I am personally known. I have a high esteem for Mrs. Senior. She is a woman who tries to put her beliefs into action, and after having been prejudiced by others against the College, she is anxious to found her judgment on fuller knowledge.
I hope that the books were duly sent by Blackwood. We have been informed that Smith & Elder sent theirs.
You see, I imagine that you are still at the College, since you have not shone on me here.
