My dear Florence
I was sorry for myself to be obliged to "wire" you and Willy away from me instead of welcoming you as I had hoped to do. 272 I dared not wait till this morning lest the telegram should not reach you and fail to hinder your taking a journey for my sake in vain. And though I am now much better and when perfectly quiet, am free from pain, I could not have been active and taken a drive with you. Ce sera pour une autre fois. This unkind weather has the one advantage of lessening disappointment by making all things less desirable. We will wait till the winds are at rest and the sun smiling undisturbedly over our lovely country, so that we can look forward to pleasant strolling and driving and not fear the sort of imprisonment that happened to Mary on her visit to me.
I am writing from my bed but am no longer pitiable, the absence of pain making a paradise after only a brief spell of its presence.
Please ask Willy to accept what I say to you as addressed to him also, and believe me dear
