Dear Mr. Harrison
Pardon my troubling you to give me one more [response.] I have been looking into Williams on Real Property, 185 but cannot get clear as to the frequency and strict necessity of resettlements of estates in tail. Pray give me a little light on the following case.
Sir A. B. Bart., having resettled the estate (in tail general) on his marriage, has issue, two sons C. and D.
C. remains unmarried till latish in life, while D. marries early and has a son E.
Afterwards, when this son E. is already of age, C. marries and has no other issue than three daughters. 186 What resettlements would probably have taken place?
And if E. died without issue while C. was still living, would the inheritance go to the three daughters equally, spite of the father C.? -- the baronetcy becoming extinct -- or would the whole power over the estate revert to C., so that he could resettle it as he liked? And if the estate went to the daughters would the baronetcy go off to a distant male branch?
I wish I had all knowledge so as to do without taxing your precious time. And I might have hunted further, but as that solitary hunting might be unsuccessful after all, I send this note in time (it is to be hoped) to save you from writing me two letters instead of one.
Yours always gratefully
M. E. Lewes.
