My dear Sir
I am glad to tell you that by some further efforts since I last wrote to you, we have succeeded in getting rid of the obnoxious paragraphs on capital punishments and prison discipline in Mr. Greg's article.
My mind is painfully preoccupied this morning by a family trouble. My sister's husband -- a medical man, not more than forty years of age -- died yesterday. My sister is left with six little children, and I am full of anxiety about a future provision for them. I shall be obliged to leave town on Thursday -- an unfortunate moment for the Westminster affairs.
