My dear Sir
I at once communicated to Mr. Chapman the proposition contained in your letter of the 2nd, but I have been unable to send you a definite answer until this morning.
We shall be happy to accept an article from you on Prison Discipline, 169 but we must beg you to allow us the option of deferring its insertion until January, unless public discussion on the question should render it peculiarly seasonable in October, in which case we shall of course be anxious to print it at once.
