My dear Sir
I am very grateful to you and Mrs. Combe for your willingness to have me as a travelling companion. Your invitation is so tempting that I have been resisting the reasons contra, and that is why I have not written to you until this morning. But I really must renounce the pleasure and be content with a shorter relaxation. I hope to be richer and freer too next year.
You and Mrs. Combe are very kind to me and I have to thank you for many pleasures. Pray add to them that of hearing from you when you are away, and believe me, my dear Sir,
