My dear Sir
I am greatly pleased with your proposal to bring out an ['e9dition de luxe] of Romola, because I know that Mr. Lewes wished for it. 367
As to the honorarium, you have already paid me so handsomely for the work and I have so valued a remembrance of the sympathy you gave me in the course of its production, that I would rather not receive more until the complete success of the undertaking has been assured.
I have been often wishing that you would call upon me, and now I hope that I shall soon see you. I am at home to friends every day after 4.30. If Sunday suits you for coming to me better than a weekday, I am at home then throughout the afternoon, but I do not make it a special day of reception, preferring at present to see only one or two friends at a time. Believe me
