My dear Sir
The parcel containing your very liberal present is still at 4 Cheyne Walk, but your kind letter with its enclosure 485 has been forwarded to me by the person who is taking care of the still unfinished house.
I did not expect to receive any honorarium at present, it at all, but it is so much in your well-remembered way to exceed the expectations even of those who know you, in acts of delicate consideration, that your letter hardly surprised me. I thank you for both word and deed. And I can sincerely say that the chief part of my pleasure in this edition of "Romola" is the belief which you encourage in me that the preparation and issuing of the work in this distinguished form has been and is a gratification to you.
