My dear Sir
It was a double satisfaction to see your handwriting as a sign that nothing was hindering you from returning to work -- the best of visible comforters. 745
I shall be very happy on all accounts if I am able to send you promising news of my progress. I am not at all confident; but I shall do the best my brain and strength will let me do. And there is always the pleasant background to my work, that I shall find nothing but help and agreement (in all fundamental matters of feeling) in you. This really makes a great difference in authorship -- in mine especially, with my tendency to suffer disproportionately from all discords.
We had not heard of Mudie's new demand for 500, and I am particularly glad to know of the prudent limitation as to printing.
Since we have a second time the evil chance of missing you on your spring visit to London, I hope something will demand an extra visit from you before another May. Pray give my kind remembrances to Mr. W. Blackwood 746 and believe me
