My dear Sir
We returned on Wednesday from our quiet and sea-breezes and can all the more feelingly congratulate you on being at Strathtyrum again. I hope you are enjoying your privileges thoroughly. Nevertheless I am malicious enough to wish that some chance may send you up to town again before Christmas, as I think was the case last year, so that you may hear how Fidalma's 644 fortunes are being developed.
Mr. Lewes desires me to tell you that he thinks you have found a treasure in the "new Contributor." 645 He expresses so much pleasure in the article understood to be written by that unknown, that I am eager to read it. You have remarked, of course, that there are two more new shilling magazines announced, besides the one we spoke of when you were here! 646
It is some compensation to me for being in town that I am in my own study, at my own desk, again, but Mr. Lewes is still headachy and finds the roll of wheels even in our comparatively private corner, very hard to bear. Is not the stillness of the country delicious when one first escapes to it? Always
