My dear Sir
I received your precious letter with the cheque enclosed in perfect safety this morning, and am very much obliged to you for remembering me so punctually.
I can sincerely say that any satisfaction I have had in the publication of Felix Holt has been heightened by your connexion with it. And I hope you share my wish that health of body and mind may serve me so well as to enable us to look back on some fresh bit of work done or soon to be done, this time next year.
Some copies of the 12/ edition came to us last night, and I am much pleased with the taste shown in the getting up. It will be very hard if the public is indifferent to so pretty an edition.
I write in haste, that I may at once acknowledge your letter, so I leave all else that I want to say until I hear from you again. Mr. Lewes is in wretched health, and is longing to get away to the south, but we shall not be able to go till far on in January. He unites with me in kind regards to you and Mr. William Blackwood.
