My dear Sir
I missed the pleasure of seeing Mr. William Blackwood yesterday, being gone out for a walk when he called, but he left two questions with Mr. Lewes, which I suppose it is best for me to answer by writing to head quarters.
We think it may be well to place the "Scenes" first in the forth-coming volume, as they are perhaps more novel to the public than "Silas." I corrected Silas carefully for the last edition, so that the reprint may be made from that without any need for my revision.
I was pleased to see the article on Lacordaire 136 in the last Maga; it has made me desire to see Montalembert's book, for the sake of its personal touches, which must be profoundly interesting, presented as he knows how to present things. Always my dear Sir,
