My dear Friend
A trip to Brighton on this perfect autumn day may be a good thing, but lying on the grass is a better. 46 I wonder you will commit yourself to an excursion train. Heaven send you may not return home piecemeal.
Thanks for your note which with its enclosures reached me yesterday. I am glad your conscience does not accuse you about the Hickson business -- or rather glad to believe that it has no reason to do so.
Write to [Froude] by all means, and if he declines to choose a subject, we will do it for him. 47
