Dear Lady Amberley
I am very glad to have had an opportunity of reading your lecture in a more complete form than the report in the Times. 912
Now that I have read it at length I find little of which I cannot say that I both agree and keenly sympathize with it. I am glad to see your energetic protest in the beginning against that common position -- "I see nothing amiss in the world: I am very comfortable in it."
I have addressed the newspaper to Miss Octavia Hill. Her home is 14 Nottingham Place, N.W.
Mr. Spencer mentioned to us last Sunday that he was intending to go to Standish. 913
If we were seated quietly together this morning, I should say many things which a letter could not easily convey, even if one were industrious enough to write lengthily. There are "nuances" which require the eyes and voice.
